Our school safeguarding statement

Beulah Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, FGM policy, Behaviour Policy and Prevent Duty Statement which can be viewed in the policies section on our website.

Any job vacancies advertised at the school will include details of our commitment to safeguarding and make clear that all roles working with children will be subject to enhanced DBS checks.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare. We aim to signpost parents to early help services as soon as possible where we feel that any family may benefit from this.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism and will make referrals to the police/CHANNEL where we have concerns.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs B Warwick (Head teacher). Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are Miss R Ofosuhene (Inclusion Manager and Miss C Budd (Deputy Head teacher). The Governor with responsibility for safeguarding in our school in Mrs Jessica Hardy. If you are contacting the school regarding a matter of safeguarding, please state this when you call the school office (0208 6534921) so that you can be directed the to correct person as a matter of urgency.

Concerns about a child can also be reported directly to Croydon Children Services on: 0208 255 2888 (urgent out of hours: 0208 726 6400)

Safeguarding and well-being

We understand that on some occasions, issues will arise between pupils in school (or outside school via chat groups). We ask that parents always make contact with the child’s teacher or a member of the senior leadership team (via the school office) in order that these issues are resolved in school by an adult responsible for both pupils. If any incident involves a potential safeguarding matter (eg cyber-bullying/peer-on-peer abuse), please see the DSL (Mrs B Warwick – Head Teacher) To ensure that the wellbeing of all pupils and parents is maintained, our policy is that no parent should approach another child or parent of another child to discuss any such issue.

Photographs and Videos

Whilst lots of parents and carers really enjoy seeing photos and videos of their children’s school life we are very mindful of our duty of care towards all our pupils. We take the issue of safeguarding very seriously and this includes the use of photographic and video images.

Any photographs or videos taken by parents, carers and relatives at school productions, sports days or other events are for the enjoyment of individual families ONLY. They must not be used in any way that could potentially place a child at risk. This would include publishing images in any form of print or on the internet (including social networking sites). This is emphasised before concerts and shows etc.

We understand that in exceptional circumstances a parent or carer may not wish their child to be photographed or videoed in this way. If this is the case then please contact the headteacher to discuss how this can be best achieved.

Occasionally, the local press will be invited to take photographs of school events and special achievements. We like to use photographs of our children on our website, in school documents, for parent information meetings, newsletters and on our display screens around the school. If you do not wish photographs to be used in this way please ensure that this is indicated on their form when they enter the school. You can also contact the school to change your photographic consent preferences at any time.
