It is important that your child is completing all homework that is set.

Homework Reminders:

Reading  - Pupils should read on Bug Club every day at home for at least 20 minutes. Pupils are allocated books for their level so all texts are accessible for every pupil. If possible,  please discuss the comprehension questions that pop up during the stories as this allows pupils to develop and extend their skills.  Your class teacher will be checking that you have read daily and dojos will be given to those that have read.

Pupils are expected to have a personal book that they have either chosen from the library, their teacher's choice (Starbook) or a home book. Please ensure that pupils are reading their own choices regularly and  discuss their book preferences with them as you enjoy stories together.

Spelling: Pupils are given a weekly spelling homework based on the pattern they have learned in class. They should complete a range of tasks such as: look, say, cover, write and check, cross words, word searches, writing definitions of spellings or writing spellings in a sentence. These will be a combination on online tasks on Purple Mash and written tasks.

Maths, GPS, Science and French - Complete any tasks your teacher has given you. You can also help by working on tasks suggested at the termly curriculum meetings or Parents' Evening.

Homework also includes weekly grammar and punctuation tasks set on Purple Mash. French tasks for learning outside school are set regularly. Children should also complete at least five minutes of Times Table Rockstars  at least four times a week. This will help your child to learn their tables. It is now a requirement  for all pupils year 4 and above to know all their times tables. Pupils start to learn these in Y3 and complete the full set in Y4. Y5 and 6 pupils should continue TT Rockstars to improve their fluency and speed.

Project homework

Each term, pupils are set a project to complete at home, to further extend an area of learning. We are very flexible about the format pupils choose to complete this work in - enabling them to be as creative as they like! Previous homework has included  3D models, collage and artwork, Powerpoint Presentations, photographs and write-ups of science experiments, poetry, stories, information texts, map work, timelines and even songs. Pupils will be set a project each half-term.

Maths  Number star - Pupils will be set workbook/homework books every 3 weeks for Number Star. These booklets are focused on their current maths targets. You can help by ensuring your child is fluent in all the skills practised in preparation for the assessment opportunity which takes place every three weeks.

Boosters

Booster classes will start in November for year 6 pupils. Please make sure that children are completing any homework set by your booster teacher and return it the following week.

If you have any questions about your child's homework, please ask your child's teacher or the Year Leader who will be happy to help.

Homework Clubs

Many of our homework activities require access to the internet, which we appreciate is difficult for families who do not have this at home.

We offer sessions at lunchtimes where pupils who have not completed 'Bug Club' or other online homework can use our computer suite to complete their tasks. Should you require further help with accessing online homework, please contact the school office.
